Lighthouse Baptist Association

Disaster Relief

The Lawson Baptist Church is participating in the Southern Baptist Mission Disaster Relief effort through the Lighthouse Baptist Association's own Disaser Relief Response team.  This is an extension of our ministry in the local, regional and national community.  The effort will offer the opportunity to share God's love for those who are victims of natural disasters like fire, flood, and tornados.

OBJECTIVE

The Lighthouse Baptist Relief Team is a service mission to provide recovery assistance to victims of disasters such as flood, tornado, hurricane and fire.  The recovery effort affords the opportunity to lend much needed support and compassion in times of great need and is an excellent opportunity to witness to those who may not yet know or have a personal relationship with Jesus.

GOALS

  1. Assemble a team of disaster relief volunteers who will attend training in September/October and be available for local and/or regional and national disasters.
  2. Develop a local support team of volunteers who- although not able to travel to disasters due to other obligations -  will be members of the disaster recovery team who will offer support in terms of prayer, soliciting donations of equipment, and serving in local support efforts. (examples: , developing communication processes, helping to build out the trailer, helping with pot lucks, fund raising events if needed)
  3. Build a “Recovery Trailer” to be deployed to disasters with the team after training has been completed. The goal is to have the trailer ready and equipped by the time September training is complete.

To volunteer, you must be a member of one of the Lighthouse Baptist Association churches and be recommended by the Pastor.  Training is required for any volunteer and is offered by the Southern Baptist Mission.  Volunteers help with a wide variety of duties from clearing debris, child care, providing hot showers and food, to the simple grace of a shoulder to lean on and an empathetic ear to listen.

YOU CAN HELP - Even if you can't join the team

Is there anyone out there who is not touched by the impact of tornados, flood, fires and other disasters on towns, both to individuals and commerce?  What an opportunity this is to be a part of the healing and rebuilding of an area afffected in this way!

Below is a list of items we will need in order to do this job.   As you can see, these items are all construction and safety related.

Many of us know of individuals or businesses that would love to get involved where they can.  They cannot donate their own time, but they may be able to donate items or money toward the purchase of tools and other items needed.  Many businesses see this as an opportunity to part with overstock or no longer needed items or equipment that can be deducted as donations at the end of the year.

Please consider prayerfully any individuals/groups that you know of that can be approached with the chance to be a part of this.

To Donate or to volunteer for the team, please contact Cindy or David Hochart at 816-580-7266 or by email at chochart0@gmail.com.
